Welcome to WM Safety Solutions

Our mission is to provide comprehensive occupational health and safety consultative services to BC First Nations with regard to healthcare delivery and community/business operations.

We believe that ensuring First Nations employed staff are healthy and safe at work benefits community as a whole.

My name is Walter (please call me Wally if you like). I am a Metis man with ancestral ties to the Red River Valley region in Manitoba.

Recent Work

Up until recently, I worked for the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) as the occupational health and safety program leader. This internal facing OHS function is part of FNHA’s Human Resources department and does not have mandate to assist community in establishing their workplace health and safety programs.

During my time of employment at FNHA we received many requests from First Nation’s Health Directors and Band/Operations Managers asking for assistance with things like; developing health and safety policy and programs, creating or refreshing safety training manuals, conducting respirator fit testing for community health nurses, facilitating hazards assessments, and creating written safe work procedures for various job tasks in community.

The answer to most of these requests was ‘unfortunately we cannot assist with this request, with the internal facing departmental mandate, we do not have scope to assist with this community need’.

This was a major factor in me resigning from the FNHA, and the primary reason why I began this company.

There a definite need in community that is currently not being met. Our aim is to serve First Nation communities, more directly, in establishing effective and holistic occupational health and safety programs.
